Chile
The Marchesi Antinori wine portfolio includes the superb wines of Viña Haras de Pirque, located in Chile’s Maipo Valley in the subregion of Pirque. Due to its unique geographical and climatic conditions, the Upper Maipo area, where Pirque is situated, is renowned for its production of Chile’s best red wines, especially Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 1991, business entrepreneur Eduardo Matte acquired an attractive estate that was christened Haras de Pirque. His objectives for the property included developing a major winery project, and expanding and improving the existing thoroughbred farm.
The Antinori and Matte families share management of the vineyards and the making of the wines, which include interesting Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, Chardonnays and Sauvignon Blancs.
Haras de Pirque – today covering 1,262 acres – gently ascends the lower slopes of a spur of the Andes Mountains. In these foothills, 362 acres are planted to vineyards and 900 acres are dedicated to horse breeding. Organic practices and environmental responsibility are core vineyard management philosophies.
