Hawk Crest
Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars has produced Hawk Crest wines since 1974 with an eye towards crafting approachable, fruit-forward wines of high quality and great value. Over the years, Warren Winiarski, founder of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, and Hawk Crest Winemaker Mark Smith (below) have carefully selected specific vineyards in some of California’s most promising growing areas from which to source fruit for Hawk Crest Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Chardonnay.
This search led to areas like Red Hills Lake County, an emerging appellation just 15 miles north of the Napa Valley capable of producing well-structured, food friendly Cabernet Sauvignon. Red Hills Lake County is now the primary source of fruit for Hawk Crest Cabernet Sauvignon. For Chardonnay, the journey led to Santa Lucia Highlands and the greater Monterey County where the land produces Chardonnay of bright acidity, minerality and ripe fruit flavors. Meanwhile, further down the coast, in Paso Robles, can be found the richly textured fruit used for Hawk Crest Merlot.
Hawk Crest is a companion brand to Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, delivering distinctive, balanced, and approachable wines that are ready to enjoy upon release. Hawk Crest is not a “second label” or declassified wine.
